LONG ISLAND WINE COUNCIL SETS FREE SHUTTLE SCHEDULE FOR EAST END

Program supported by Market NY Grant

Riverhead, NY (October 1, 2014) – The Long Island Wine Council is pleased to announce the second

annual free shuttle weekends on the East End this fall to promote car-free tourism across the region.

Following a similar program coordinated by the East End Tourism Alliance last year, the shuttles will

operate on the South Fork on October 11 and 12 (Columbus Day Weekend), and on the North Fork on

November 8 and 9 (Veterans Day Weekend).

This year’s program is supported by a grant awarded to the Long Island Wine Council by New York

State’s Empire State Development and the I LOVE NY Division of Tourism under Governor Andrew

Cuomo’s Regional Economic Development Council initiative.

On the South Fork, the free Hampton Jitney shuttle will run from Southampton to Montauk on Saturday

and Sunday from 10 am to 6 pm. Reservations are required for the inter-town service (call 631-283-4600).

In addition, there will be a free continuous bus shuttle loop from the center of Montauk to the Lighthouse,

the Harbor area, the LIRR and back to town. The Montauk service is planned to coincide with the 33rd

Annual Fall Festival, sponsored by the Montauk Chamber of Commerce. The family-oriented community

event takes place on the Green in the center of downtown Montauk. The program includes a Famous

Clam Chowder contest, where the public can join noted chefs and dignitaries in sampling a variety of

unforgettable chowders from local restaurants.

The Veteran’s Weekend service will connect North Fork hamlets, wineries and other businesses

participating in the second annual “Taste North Fork” festival. The program will include special tastings

and events at wineries and other local craft beverage producers, as well as a range of activities and offers

at local restaurants, shops and historical sites from Riverhead to Greenport. There will be a Riverhead

loop, for stops between Riverhead and Love Lane in Mattituck, as well as a Greenport loop, for stops

between Mattituck and Greenport. The shuttles will circulate every 35-45 minutes from noon to 5:30

pm with passenger access from the Long Island Rail Road station in Mattituck, the Cross Sound Ferry

terminal in Orient Point, and the Office Max/Pottery Barn parking lot at Tanger Outlets in Riverhead.

Access to the shuttle loops will also be provided by a new Hampton Jitney I Love NY bus tour. The full

program with all offers will be available and updated on http://www.liwines.com, http://www.eastendgetaway.com

and http://www.discoverli.com.
